Nan A. Rothschild, an urban social archaeologist and adjunct professor at Columbia University, together with co-author Amanda Sutphin, the chief archaeologist for NYC, will present Buried Beneath the City: An Archaeological History of New York. This award-winning book uses urban archaeology to retell the history of New York, from the deeper layers of the past to the topsoil of recent events. It explores the ever-evolving city and the day-to-day world of residents through artifacts which reveal the density, diversity, and creativity of a city perpetually tearing up its foundations to rebuild itself. Buried Beneath the City is both an archaeological history of New York City and an introduction to urban archaeology.
